Weekly Wrap-Up
Best of the week: February 11, 2023
Every week I wrap-up the best things I read, watched, learned, and more.

1. Kareem’s post about Lebron
On Tuesday night Lebron James passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s NBA all-time scoring record. Kareem shared his thoughts in a post titled What I Think About LeBron Breaking My NBA Scoring Record in which he shares “everything you wanted to know about Lebron and me and the scoring record.” I was blown away by his writing and my thumb jumped to the subscribe button the instant I finished reading. You can view and subscribe to Kareem’s work on Substack.
2. Snowmobiling day in the Cascades
Our friend Brian Davis of Snoqualmie Valley Real Estate invited us on a snowmobiling adventure in the Cascade mountain range around Cle Elum, Washington. We spent the afternoon exploring mountain peaks, frozen lakes, and beautiful forest roads in an unforgettable day. He’ll be posting a video about the day on his YouTube channel.
3. Started reading Senlin Ascends
Senlin Ascends is the first of four books in the Books of Babel series by Josiah Bancroft. I’m only a few chapters in but I’m loving it so far. I haven’t started a new fantasy series in a while and feels good to be lost in a new world again.
4. Went to my favorite Seattle bookstore
Ada’s is my favorite for three reasons: great food, great coffee, and great books. I always get a vegan breakfast burrito and love browsing the technical book selection they offer. It’s rare to have a bookshop with such a large selection of science, technology, and enginnering books to choose from. On this trip I picked up The Pragmatic Programmer: From Journeyman to Master. It’s been on my to-read list for a while and I’m looking forward to finally checking it off.
5. Car Talk radio show reruns
Car Talk was a staple of my NPR consumption for most of my life until the hosts retired over 10 years ago. I recently stumbled across reruns on the NPR Podcast YouTube channel and it’s been the background to all my chores and workouts this week.
